This Certificate Program takes a unique approach to presenting the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental well-being. 2041 Logo
Darcy recently returned from Antarctica, as part of an expedition sponsored by British Petroleum’s Alternative Energy Division and led by Robert Swan and members of his 2041 expedition team. The mission was to empower and inspire expedition members, which included 50 global youth leaders from around the world, to take action regarding climate change and become leaders and advocates for positive change in their workplace and community.

Robert Swan, OBE, is the founder of 2041 and the only person in history to reach both the North and South Poles unaided. This 12-day expedition included 50 students from 20 countries and 30 universities as well as faculty, staff, and BP leaders. Since returning from Antarctica, the expedition members continue to collaborate on a multitude of projects that are having immediate impact around the globe.

In November, 2009, Robert’s 2041 team will be embarking on a celebratory expedition to honor the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Antarctic Treaty.

    The Council for Responsible Sport:

Council for Responsible Sport In April 2009, Darcy joined the Board of Directors for The Council for Responsible Sport, which was founded in 2007 to develop an independent, comprehensive certification for sustainable athletic events. By defining realistic objectives and providing a framework for achieving them, the Council enables event directors to incorporate environmental and social responsibility into their events while informing consumers which events adhere to these standards.

In December 2008, The Council for Responsible Sport published its State of Sustainability Sport Pilot Program Case Study, which documented 15 sporting events that took place in 2008 and led to the first 11 The Council for Responsible Sport certified events. Moving forward the certification will be utilized as a mechanism to help ensure future generations have the choice to participate in sports as we do today. By identifying responsibly produced events through a common set of standards, marketplace differentiation can occur and consumers can exercise choice and encourage a fundamental shift in the ways we practice sport.
